Sourcing and Product Condition
Where our parts come from, what each condition label means, and what to expect for packaging, date codes, testing, traceability, and manufacturer warranties.
This guide explains the condition and sourcing language used in the Sofitrek catalog. Read it together with the product page, photographs, quotation, and order confirmation. If a product page, quote, or order confirmation says something more specific, that is what applies.
Where our inventory comes from
Electronic and industrial components can enter the independent market through manufacturer or distributor excess, OEM and contract-manufacturer surplus, business inventory reductions, discontinued programs, warehouse liquidations, service stock, repair operations, and other secondary-market channels.
Sofitrek may purchase directly from a manufacturer, authorized distributor, original equipment manufacturer, contract manufacturer, established independent distributor, industrial business, or another source considered appropriate for the transaction. A source name or full supply-chain history is provided only when Sofitrek has the information, is permitted to disclose it, and expressly includes it in the product page, quotation, or order documentation.
Independent sourcing does not automatically mean a product is used, defective, or counterfeit. It does mean that authorized-channel benefits and complete manufacturer traceability should not be assumed.
Condition labels
New
The item is represented as unused. It may be in original manufacturer packaging, distributor packaging, cut tape, a partial reel, a tray, a tube, a bag, or other packaging described on the product page. "New" does not by itself promise a recent date code, factory seal, full reel, original accessories, authorized-channel traceability, or a transferable manufacturer warranty.
New Surplus
The item is represented as unused and was bought as surplus. Packaging may have been opened, divided, relabeled, stored for an extended period, or replaced. Labels and outer packaging may show shelf wear, writing, old adhesive, discoloration, or other storage evidence. Check the product page for any packaging or cosmetic details known for that lot.
New Old Stock
The item is represented as unused inventory from an older production period or a discontinued, obsolete, or legacy product family. Age alone does not establish functionality or failure. Date codes may be older, mixed, unknown, or omitted unless specifically stated. Packaging, leads, terminals, finishes, labels, and outer surfaces may show age-related oxidation, tarnish, discoloration, residue, or storage wear.
Used
The item has previously been installed, operated, handled in service, or otherwise cannot be represented as unused. Check the listing for known wear, missing accessories, or test status. "Used" does not mean refurbished or fully tested unless the listing separately says so.
Refurbished
The item was previously used, returned, repaired, cleaned, reconditioned, or restored and is offered after a defined refurbishment process. Where it is known, the product page or quotation says who did the work and what it covered. "Refurbished" does not imply manufacturer refurbishment or certification unless expressly stated.
For Parts
The item is not represented as functional and is sold for parts recovery, analysis, training, repair, or another non-operational purpose. Defects may be known or unknown. Unless the law requires otherwise, a For Parts item cannot be claimed as defective because it does not work or could not be repaired.
Packaging and quantity
Packaging terminology describes how the item is supplied, not necessarily its authorized-channel history.
- "Factory sealed" means Sofitrek has good reason to believe the original manufacturer seal is intact.
- "Original packaging" means packaging believed to originate from the manufacturer or original distribution channel. It does not by itself prove an unbroken chain of custody.
- "Cut tape," "partial reel," "repacked," "bulk," "tube," "tray," and similar terms describe the delivery format.
- Manuals, certificates, mounting hardware, software, firmware, licenses, cables, and accessories are included only when stated.
- Quantity is the number of units sold under the selected offer. Photographs may show more or fewer units for illustration.
Date codes and lot codes
Date and lot markings can matter for qualification, matching, storage-life, or production-control reasons. Unless a product page, quote, or order confirmation promises a specific code or range:
- no particular date code or lot code is guaranteed;
- inventory may contain mixed codes;
- a photo may not show the exact code shipped;
- an older code is not automatically a defect;
- Sofitrek does not promise date-code continuity across separate orders.
Buyers who require a specific date code, single lot, country of origin, lead finish, moisture-sensitivity status, or shelf-life evidence must receive written confirmation before ordering.
Photographs and cosmetic condition
Check the product page to see whether photographs show the actual inventory or a representative item. Colors, markings, label placement, packaging, and cosmetic wear can vary between lots.
Cosmetic characteristics that do not materially conflict with the stated condition may include bent but serviceable leads, oxidation, tarnish, discoloration, label wear, residue, old adhesive, weathered packaging, or storage marks. Significant conditions known before the sale are stated in the listing. Contact us before ordering when appearance is important to the application or resale requirement.
What we check, and what we do not
When we list a part, we may review the available source information, markings, packaging, photographs, quantity, and visible condition. That does not mean every unit or lot has had laboratory, destructive, authenticity, solderability, environmental, or full electrical testing.
A product is described as tested only when the product page, quotation, or order documentation states the test performed and, when material, its scope or result. A basic functional check is not equivalent to testing against every manufacturer specification. Sampling does not prove every unit. Third-party testing is not included unless written into the transaction.
Buyers may request a quotation for independent laboratory services before shipment. Availability, test method, sample size, lead time, cost, and disposition of destructively tested units must be agreed in writing.
Authenticity concerns
Sofitrek does not knowingly offer counterfeit products. No visual review or single test can support an absolute authenticity guarantee for every component. When credible information creates a material concern about identity or authenticity, Sofitrek may place inventory or an order on hold, request information, remove a listing, seek additional review, cancel the affected transaction, or provide a remedy under the applicable policy.
A buyer returning electronic components must return the same items supplied by Sofitrek. Substituted, mixed, remarked, altered, or third-party items may be quarantined while the matter is reviewed and will not be credited as an ordinary return.
Traceability and certificates
Traceability can range from an original manufacturer certificate to a commercial invoice or no transferable documentation at all. Do not assume full manufacturer traceability, a certificate of conformance, authorized-channel paperwork, test reports, country-of-origin evidence, or a complete chain of custody unless it is expressly included.
Sofitrek may provide its own commercial certificate or packing documentation when appropriate, but that document does not transform independent inventory into manufacturer-authorized stock or certify facts beyond those stated.
Manufacturer warranties and affiliation
Manufacturer warranty and support may not apply to inventory purchased through an independent distributor. Sofitrek is not an authorized distributor, affiliate, or service center for a manufacturer unless expressly stated. Any Sofitrek warranty or assurance is separate and is described in Product Assurance or in the product-specific written terms.
Before ordering
Contact us before ordering when any of the following is mandatory:
- exact date code or single-lot supply;
- original sealed packaging;
- authorized-channel traceability;
- certificate of conformance or test report;
- country of origin, ECCN, HTS, RoHS, REACH, Prop 65, or other compliance evidence;
- specific firmware, software, revision, calibration, or accessories;
- independent laboratory or electrical testing;
- high-reliability or safety-critical application controls.
Send the manufacturer part number, requested quantity, and requirement through the Contact and Help Center. A requirement is part of the sale only when Sofitrek confirms it in writing.
